The Chair noted that the Xmas entertainment provided in the city centre both through the Pontio project and the Deiniol Centre sponsored Community Performances had a very positive response. Many thanks to Dyfan Roberts from Bangor University, all the schools, choirs and community groups that entertained shoppers and the staff at the Deiniol Centre. Furthermore, the group has made a successful bid for funding to Gwynedd Council. A grant of over £4000 has been offered to the group to promote Bangor as a retail destination over the coming months (Action by RC / AD).

Mr Paul Hockaday raised the issue of licensing on street performance in Bangor as many other Councils, such as, Coventry and Oxford do so (Action by G Hughes / BC).

Ms Gwenan Hine reported that the University & Students Sub-Group aim to significantly reduce problems associated with rubbish accumulations at certain times of year in the residential areas of the City. A planned campaign will raise awareness about the correct use of local rubbish collection and recycling systems. Unfortunately due to the bad weather the scheduled meeting with the PR company earlier this week had to be cancelled, further details regarding this campaign will be available at the next meeting (Action by G Hine).

In recent years this large site has become a hot spot for fly-tipping and other environmental crime. Gwynedd Council & Environment Agency Wales will shortly issue a joint press statement confirming the national launch of Fly-tipping Action Wales, with details of linked projects, including Donkey Lane (Action by PJS / ILT/ AR).

Mr Paul Hockaday shared his experiences from conducting similar successful projects in Maesgerichen, he found education and awareness raising through the news letter to be very effective. It was noted that by now residents of the estate are much more willing to reported incidents of environmental crime (Action by ILT).

Ms Gwenan Hine suggested that it may be useful to contact Friars School (Action by ILT).

The Chair suggested that local residents need to be informed about how much money is being spent on the clear up (Action by PJS / ILT).

Mr Peter Simpson informed the group of another projects that the Tidy Towns Team hope to undertake such as a clean up at the Memorial Gardens. It was agreed at an earlier sub group meeting that the City Council would lead on this project since the land is their property.

The Chair agreed to contact Mr Gwyn Hughes regarding the site to discuss progress (Action by JWJ / G Hughes).

Mr Peter Simpson felt that another walk about in the City would be beneficial.
